
Google Classroom – Create an Assignment

When you create an assignment, you can post it immediately, save a draft, or schedule it to post at a later date. After students complete and turn in their work, you can grade and return it to the students.
How to create an assignment for classes created prior to 2019:
- Sign-in.
- Click name of the class for which you want to create the assignment.
- At the bottom, hover over Add then click Create Assignment . (Create assignments when wanting students to submit work. Choose announcement or material if you are wanting students to only access material)
How to create an assignment for classes created in 2019:
- Sign-in.
- Click name of the class for which you want to create the assignment.
- At the top, click the Classwork tab. Then,
. Lastly, choose either create an assignment or create a quiz assignment.
(Create assignments when wanting students to submit work. Choose announcement or material if you are wanting students to only access material)

- If you are creating the same assignment for more than one class, at the top, click on the arrow next to the name of the class, and you can then select more classes.
5. Enter the title and any instructions, points, and the due date.
- You can add attachments, such as Google Drive files, YouTube videos, or links to your assignment. If adding a document you are wanting students to complete and return, be sure to select “Make a copy for each student” so that they aren’t all working in the same file.
- When you have finished all of the above steps, you are ready to assign. Click “Assign” at the bottom of the page.
If you would like to assign it for a later date, click the arrow next to the assign button.
You can then choose to save the draft or assign it to post at a later date.
