Space (Part 4) – A Plan
4 Stripes
Space – A Plan will guide you through the process of designing a learning space that will enhance and promote the learning experience in your classroom. Not every plan will look the same, nor should it. Let’s see what you and your learners can create.
Modified from The Space: A Guide for Educators by Rebecca L. Hare and Dr. Robert Dillon.
You are going to create a plan and design to upgrade your learning space (your classroom).
Process
- Find ideas or visuals that you would like
- Compile them in a document or folder like the CGPS Learning Lab Ideas document.
- A good suggestion here might be to list the different configurations and uses for your space and add ideas for each, categorizing your ideas.
- Include students
- Poll or do a short brainstorm with students further to gather their perceived needs. Or have them submit via a Google Form/Doc 3-5 images of ideas. The more input they have, the more engaging the space will be.
- Add their ideas to your idea document.
- If you’d like to take it a step further, share with them your document and have them make designs for the space.
- Include others
- Share your ideas/collaborate with others. Consider sharing with your department or your PLN and get their trusted feedback.
- Include an area for collaboration, creation, and quiet
- Create a design that includes areas or arrangements for collaboration, creation, and quiet.
- Include a classroom management/engagement plan
- Students will not know how to react/interact to the space. Guide them.
Example
