Google Hangouts Basics
Google Hangouts is Google’s Skype and Facetime, combined with chat features, screencasting, and Google Phone text messaging. This free video-conferencing tool is available for teachers to use as part of GSuite for Education. Up to 10 participants can join a Google Hangout at a time. It’s a great way to connect your classroom with other classrooms anywhere in the world.
Getting Started
There are four places to find Google Hangouts:
- hangouts.google.com
- Gmail (Settings>Chat[Turned On])
- Google Hangouts Chrome Extension
- Mobile Apps (Android; iOS)
Messaging
Video Calling
Uses for School
The power of Google Hangouts is connecting with others. For schools, this means connecting to professionals, to other classrooms, or taking part in professional learning hangouts.
CGPS is currently restricting Hangouts use by students. However, teachers do have access.
